Silent City Distro is (A) place to find often marginalized voices and perspectives. A zine library and distribution. A place to get reviews on zines, books, and films. A center of gravity for underground publication in the Fingerlakes Region. Welcome.
The Silent City grows strong, spreading roots under the foundation of modern mechanical society. You can’t see us or hear us. Not until you are ready. But we’re here, digging tunnels, building fires, carrying seeds, flowering with incredible expressions of life and creativity. Resistance is Fertile, Join us. MISSION STATEMENT:
We are a collective dedicated to creating a venue for radical voices to speak out and be heard. We distribute literature, and publish a variety of Zines, including the Ithaca Zine. We table at conferences, offer free classes, and organize a zine library in Ithaca, NY.
We are Anarchists and visionaries. We are romantic and daring. We listen, study, agitate, connect issues, and disrupt business as usual. We reject hierarchy and disrupt oppression. We know that another world is possible. We create alternatives based on our values; building community, awareness, & action. We are a movement and a spark.
We are Ithaca folk. We live here and are rooted to the land, the people, and our collective histories. At the same time, we are part of the larger world.
We are unapologetically anti-state, anti-imperialist, anti-colonial. We reject patriarchy and sexist gender norms. We are committed to ending racism and deconstructing it within ourselves. We do not tolerate class elitism or “high society”. We reject the appropriation of life and culture into commodities to be bought and sold. Instead, we promote direct participation and life experience. We refuse to be bystanders. Through the structure of our organizing, and all our relationships we practice anarchist values of cooperation, consent, and mutual aid.
Get Involved:
Silent City Distro is a growing collective of publishers, not because we have fancy equipment, lots of money, or college degrees… but because we feel like it. We are all experts on our own lives and stories and expressions. If you want to make a zine, something to print and express yourself and pass around the streets, halls at school, punk shows, hippie festivals, whatever… DO IT! If you want to check out some zines that can offer good advice about self-publishing, check out the Zine library. There could be something there for you.
